Dr. iur. Dr. med. Mathias Priewer is a specialist on critical situations and complex problems. Clients facing particular challenges rely on Mathias' advice when those challenges have to do with regulatory questions, issues relating to enforcement and managerial conduct, legislative proceedings or corporate compliance. He develops strategies and approaches for positioning his clients vis-à-vis authorities and other market participants, and represents his clients both in and out of court.

Mathias has extensive expertise in healthcare and pharmaceutical law. With deep industry knowledge, he supports his clients on fundamental questions as well as on the development of new ideas and business models. He is known for thinking outside the box and finding tailor-made solutions.

He also serves as legal counsel to both national and international companies, as well as to individuals, in all areas relating to white-collar criminal law and German administrative offenses law. Mathias defends his clients in proceedings conducted by regulatory authorities, prosecutors and courts, during international investigations and in mutual legal assistance (MLAT) procedures.

As a criminal defense lawyer, Mathias brings extensive trial experience to the table and is a seasoned negotiator: Before becoming a lawyer out of conviction, he served as a judge at a German regional court, where he dealt with criminal cases and complex investigative proceedings.

Prior to that, Mathias was one of very few to successfully complete parallel studies in both law and medicine. He is therefore also a licensed physician — and knows: the closer to the heart the operation, the more important trust becomes.

An additional focus of Mathias' work is internal investigations. He provides comprehensive advice to companies and their boards on the handling of possible compliance violations, frequently in connection with investigations conducted by German and foreign law enforcement and regulatory authorities. As a crisis manager, Mathias organizes the defense of company employees, directors and officers, in addition to advising on challenges in internal and external corporate communication.

Mathias has published more than 50 articles on legal, medical and historical subjects. In addition, he is regularly invited to deliver lectures and emcee expert events. As one of the regional coordinators of WisteV, a German non-profit association that promotes dialog on white-collar criminal law, Mathias has a wide network.

Beyond that, passing on his knowledge and experience to young colleagues is a matter very close to Mathias' heart: He teaches school law at the Center for Teacher Education at the University of Koblenz. He has also taught criminal law and legal tech/artificial intelligence in the LL.M. program in economic criminal law at the University of Liechtenstein — a subject that is very important to him personally, well beyond its legal aspects.
