Malte advises clients on internal investigations and regulatory inquiries by German and foreign supervisory authorities concerning potential compliance violations. He has particular expertise in compliance matters affecting regulated financial institutions.

He also advises domestic and international banks, financial services providers, and asset managers on matters of banking supervisory law, investment law, and corporate governance.

A key focus of his work is the use of generative artificial intelligence in internal investigations and regulatory matters. On this topic, Malte has published academic work and was involved in the development of Hengeler Mueller’s innovative generative AI-based eDiscovery solution.

He is the author of a leading textbook on European Banking Regulation and regularly publishes in legal journals. He also teaches as a lecturer at Bucerius Law School.
