Gerrit provides comprehensive regulatory advice for clients from the financial sector, in particular credit institutions and investment firms, payment service providers, insurance companies, asset managers, and financial investors.

A focus of his practice is advising on regulatory issues of strategic importance, particularly in complex restructurings, (cross‑border) M&A and portfolio transactions. In addition, Gerrit represents his clients in licensing, shareholder control, and other regulatory proceedings before ECB, BaFin, and the Deutsche Bundesbank.

Gerrit has recently advised, among others, a consortium of Allianz, BlackRock, Generali, Hannover Re, and T&D on the acquisition of Viridium Group; BAWAG on the acquisition of Barclays’ German retail business; and Advent and Centerbridge on the completion of the takeover of Aareal Bank AG.
