Career Path

A career at Hengeler Mueller follows a clearly defined time line. One and a half years after joining the firm, a decision is made about including the name of the associate on the letterhead. After three years, the associate is eligible for appointment as Senior Associate. Upon completion of five years, a "sounding" regarding the chances of becoming a partner is conducted, and, after an aggregate term of six years, a decision is made about election to partnership. During this entire period of time, regular discussions with partners provide the associate with a good indication of his or her level of performance at any given time.

Equal treatment is a fundamental principle at Hengeler Mueller. There are no different types or forms of partnership. Each partner has the same voting right and, based on a lock-step system, an equal share in the profits. The principle of equal treatment also applies to our associates and senior associates. Starting salaries, salary increases and the period until partnership are the same for all associates.

Aside from partnership, selected employees are offered counsel status. This career path is appropriate if you wish to specialise at an early stage or seek part-time employment over the long term.
